Abstracts from the IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury & Illness in Sport

The conference provides the world's leading sports medicine experts with an opportunity to present their work to an international audience of physicians, therapists, scientists and coaches. The conference presents evidence-based information on how to prevent injuries and other health problems in sport. This includes a multidisciplinary perspective on epidemiology, risk factors, pathophysiology and injury mechanisms. Panel discussions concludes symposia in key areas providing recommendations on how to prevent specific injuries and health problems in each sport. The three-day program includes: Keynote lectures on issues related to the prevention and other health problems in sport by leading clinicians and researchers. Symposia with invited speakers and oral presentations on how to prevent specific injuries and illnesses: Risk factors Injury mechanisms Pathophysiology Prevention methods Specific health problems that will be addressed include: Ankle sprains, Knee ligament injuries (including ACL injuries), Head & neck injuries, Hamstring strains, Groin injuries, Sudden cardiac death, Exercise-related asthma, Eating disorders, Dental health prevention and other health problems.
