Difference of both upper limb muscle aktivities using surface EMG during push-pull in archery

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to know the importance of compare both the upper limb muscular activities by using a surface electromyography (EMG) telemeter system in the push-pull in archery. Methods: We examined five male archers (Height: 166,7 + 3,2 cm, Body weight: 59,9 +/- 6,6 kg, Age: 19,6 +/- 6,6 years). Each archer performed seven shots. Surface EMG was recorded from both upper limb muscles. The integrated EMG (iEmG) was analysed from 1-sec before and 0,5-sec after the release period using EMG analyze software. To measure the bow strength, we used the strain gauge-direct amplifier system. Results and discussion: As for iEMG, muscle (57,7 +/- 5,9%) of push-upper limb showed a higher figure than the muscle pull-upper limb (42,3 +/- 5,9%) in each subject. In each subject, iEMG of m. deltoideus (posterior) andm. triceps brachii (lateralis) of push-upper limb were bigger than other muscle groups. Also, unlike other subjects, iEMG of m. biceps brachii was bigger than iEMG of one m. deltoideus (posterior) in pull-upper limb of (a) archer. At the pre-post release of muscle activities of forearm muscle groups in pull-upper limb tend to be different in each subject. However, it is indistinct wether the result that was obtained in this experiment effects directly to the performance. Therefore we will examine it in the future.
