Menstrual cycle characteristics among female canoe athletes

Canoe slalom is an Olympic discipline conducted on a whitewater course, where athletes navigate through a sequence of upstream and downstream gates. Two types of boats are used in this sport: canoe (C) and kayak (K). In the canoe events, athletes use a single-bladed paddle and adopt a kneeling position with legs bent and secured under the body, contrasting with the seated position and double-bladed paddle technique used in kayak events. At the international level, six individual events are contested: women`s kayak (WK1), men`s kayak (MK1), women`s canoe (WC1), men`s canoe (MC1), women`s kayak cross (WX1), and men`s kayak cross (MX1) (1). From the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games onward, athlete representation has been structured for gender parity at the Olympic Games and, theoretically, at all other competitions organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF).
