Energetics in canoe sprint

(Energieformen im Sprint im Kanurennsport)

200 m sprint-canoeing had its debut in world championship in 1993. After the revision of International Canoeing Federation in 2009, it was contested in London for the first time in Olympic history, where the finishing time of this event was averagely 43.4 s. Since its relative short history in Olympic Games and limited discipline (only male single), 200 m sprint-canoeing was rarely investigated. The single study which could be found was conducted in 1997, and the relative aerobic contribution was found to be 33-40% from only 2 canoeists on ergometer with the method of maximal accumulated oxygen deficit (MAOD) (Byrnes and Kearney 1997). Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate on energy contributions in sprint-canoeing on water.
