The comparison of performances between football world cups 2002, 2006 and 2010
In past years, many principles in other fields of science have adapted into sport science (Reilly, 1981). Among them, the statistical approaches to identify the differences in seasonal time scales have been not often considered. The aim of this study was to utilise the official stats in football World cups (2002, 2006 & 2010) and also to compare the differences of performances within statistical comparisons.
Methods
All matches in each stage in football World cups (2002, 2006 and 2010) were considered for the data collection. Totally, 37 factors were compared between the World cups. For the statistical comparisons, the One-way ANOVA with Scheffe test as a post hoc comparison was used to determine the data.
Results & Discussion
There were different numbers of factors significantly differences found in the statistical comparisons as Table 1. In the details of the results, there were different findings in the comparisons even the numbers of significant differences found in the comparisons. To identify the optimal sets of factors based on the official stats for the comparisons, the seasonal comparison of performance might be considered rather than each difference of factors.
Conclusion
The statistical comparisons of performances based on the official stats of football World cups could be investigated. Internal and external factors regarding to the results of comparisons would be concerned in further researches as well as more number of cases.
