In der Studie wird geprüft, inwieweit bei Mannschaften unterschiedlicher Spielstärke im Amateurfußball Zusammenhänge zwischen Kohäsion, Kooperation und Wettkampforientierung (Kompetition) hergestellt und in Beziehung zur Leistung gesetzt werden können. Insgesamt werden 22 Teams (235 Spieler) entsprechend ihrer Tabellenleistung in drei Leistungsgruppen unterteilt und zu mannschaftsinternen, sozialen Prozessen während der Saison 2007/08 befragt. Als abhängige Variablen werden die Kohäsion mittels des deutschen Group Environment Questionnaire (Wilhelm & Milz, 1997) und die Wahrnehmung von Kooperation, Kompetition und Individualisierungstendenzen (Wegner & Ratzkowski, 2008 in Anlehnung an Deutsch, 1973) erfasst. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich erfolgreiche Mannschaften sowohl durch ein hohes kohäsives als auch ein hohes kooperatives und kompetitives Verhalten auszeichnen. Wie erwartet, zeigen sich positive Zusammenhänge zwischen Wettbewerb und der Aufgabenorientierung, sowie zwischen kooperativen Handlungsweisen und dem sozialemotionalen Zusammenhalt. Ähnliche Korrelationen ergeben sich zwischen der Wettkampforientierung und der Sozialkohäsion. Diese Befunde weisen darauf hin, dass bei einer wechselseitigen Beziehung zwischen Kohäsion und Leistung auch kompetitive und individualistische Verhaltensweisen eine zentrale Rolle spielen können. The aim of this study is to clarify whether correlations between cohesion, co-operation, and competitiveness can be established and set in relation to the league performance of amateur football teams. According to their ranking, a total of 22 teams (235 players) were classified into three different categories and questioned about internal social group processes during the football season 2007/08. Cohesion variables were based on the German Group Environment Questionnaire (Wilhelm & Milz, 1997), and perception of co-operation, competitiveness, and individualism (Wegner & Ratzkowski, 2008; according to Deutsch, 1973) was dealt with in this context. The results indicate that successful teams are characterized by a balance of cohesive, co-operative, and competitive attitudes. Moreover, a general positive coherence was found between task-focused attitudes and internal trade rivalries as well as between cooperative and social behavior. Furthermore, the results show that competition and individualism are essential social constructs in a reciprocal relation between cohesion and performance.
