Low stiffness dance flooring increases peak ankle plantar flexor muscle activation during a ballet jump
(Ein Tanzboden mit geringer Steifigkeit erhöht die Spitzenaktivierung der Plantarflexoren im Knöchel während eines Ballettsprungs)
Key Points
• Average peak amplitude EMG output was significantly higher for soleus and showed a trend for higher average peak output for gastrocnemius for dancers doing sauté on a low stiffness dance floor compared to a high stiffness floor.
• With the high stiffness floor, more force was returned to the dancers` legs, but the low stiffness floor absorbed some of the force, so muscles needed to contribute more tension to maintain the same jump height.
• If dance flooring can decelerate the landing of a high velocity dance movement, it also may help to prevent injury by decreasing the musculotendinous demand for high velocity tension generation.
