Ergogenic aids

Nutritional supplements and ergogenic aids are routinely used by athletes to aid in training and competition. Considering the growing number of supplements on the market, skaters seeking to use the supplements described in this chapter ( or other ergogenic aids) should consult with a sports nutritionist/dietitian to obtain a needs assessment, good education, and evidence-based recommendations. Ultimately, each skater is responsible for what they put into their body, so care should be taken to ensure any supplement comes from a clean source to minimize the risk of ingesting a banned substance. A good diet that contains healthy foods and is supported by strategic supplement use (if/when needed) can help support figure skaters in achieving peak performance.
